The Pull List – Week 10 & 11, 2011

I finally missed a week. Didn’t even make it to the big 1-0. Oh well. Now I get to put more titles in one post, including this week’s Pick of the Week. Did I miss something these past two weeks? Do you have a book you want to talk about? Talk about it in the comments.

WizardWorld (not-so) Digital: Print Fumbling into Internet Publication

A few weeks ago, Wizard Magazine (along with its sister publication Toy Fair) were discontinued, as Wizard founder/CEO Gareb Shamus decided to focus more on his convention business (if they’re all as lackluster as Wizard World Atlanta, he’s got a lot of work to do) and transitioning the geeky content publication to the unexplored frontier of le Web.

Finally, after missing its target release month by about a week, WizardWorld Digital released on Saturday, March 5. The new online initiative designed to bring the once titan of comic news and fandom into the 21st century is… a PDF file?

No Pull List – Week 9, 2011

And… I got nothing. This was a lack-luster week for me in terms of comic buying, as nothing really interested me enough to make a purchase. Still, as per a resolution, I’m updating this every week. So now I bring you a No Pull List post (a.k.a. filler). And of course, there’s the usual question. What did you pick up this week?

Movie Night – Daybreakers and the Bandit

Daybreakers stars Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe and Sam Neill. Hawkes plays Edward Dalton, a hematologist working for Sam Neill, trying to find a blood substitute to the world’s ever-shrinking human blood shortage for the global vampiric population. That is, until he is approached by Willem Dafoe’s Elvis with the prospect of something better than a substitute – a cure.

The Pull List – Week 8, 2011

Ouch. SEVEN BOOKS THIS WEEK. My wallet is hurt. A bunch of good Marvel books came out this week (including a much-needed second printing). I keep wanting to cut back on books, and I do in a way (Superman and Wonder Woman are out of the list), but then I keep picking up new books. Comment on my list and tell me how you manage your monthly titles.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger – First Thoughts

The 35th anniversary Super Sentai series – Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger – premiered this past weekend. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger (Pirate Strike Force Gokaiger) is a team of space pirates coming to Earth for the universe’s greatest treasure. On the way, they run into the evil space empire Zangyack, with bounties on each of the rangers’ heads.

The Pull List – Week 6, 2010

Our latest snowpoclypse in Nashville Wednesday evening delayed my weekly comic trip, but I did manage to pick up my books last night for a late Pull List post Did the weather keep you from your weeklies, or did you find some gems in the stands? Tell me about it in the comments.

Movie Night – Superman/Shazam: The Return of Snowpocalypse

This week’s Pull List will be delayed for the same reason I didn’t record with CineGeek last night. Nashville was hit with yet another snow storm that, while only a couple of inches, brought the city to a standstill for several hours.  Instead, I spent the night in with friends, drinking perfectly acceptable orange juice and apple cider while watching Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam.

Movie Night – Inception

I first watched Inception last August with a group of cousins in from out of town. One had already seen it multiple times and was very caught up in the film. After watching, we were too. Last night, I assume I felt the same way as I rewatched with a friend who had never seen the film. Watching her learn about each new dream layer and the intricacies of the world building unfold. It’s always a treat to watch someone experience something new with that wide-eyed excitement.
